Enter the Galaxy S7 Edge. Released almost a year after its predecessor, does it manage to pass the test?

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Design and Screen

The Galaxy S7 Edge is curved, unlike the flat backed S6 Edge, which was quite awkward for instantaneous pick up and use. The S7 Edge’s curved design definitely gives your hands a better chance at gripping it.

The 5.5 inch display makes for picture perfect viewing, and is a great fit with the Android Marshmallow OS. Its vibrant colours and near cartoon-like vibe are certainly refreshing to behold, even though they might put off a few people at first.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Battery and Performance

The battery has been notched up by Samsung, with the Galaxy S7 boasting of a 3600 mAh battery. Expect the phone to last just a little over a day on frequent use. The battery is largely helped by the Marshmallow’s doze mode, which automatically turns off background apps. For people on-the-move, wireless charging pads are recommended.

In terms of processors, you could go for either a Snapdragon 820 powered version, or an Exynos 8890 Octa-core variant. Samsung has reportedly stated that performance difference between the two versions would be minimal, but you can expect the Exynos 8890 to provide better performance. Add 4 GB RAM to the mix, and you have a phone that is capable of incredible performance. Samsung has put serious thought to smartphone gaming with the Galaxy S7 Edge. While current games like Asphalt 8 and Trigger 2 run real smooth, expect future games to be just as smooth as well.

The 12 MP camera specs might not seem too impressive on the surface, but they certainly produce quality images. Low-light captures on the S7 Edge carry much better detail than on the Note 5, which has a 16 MP primary rear camera.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Storage

The Galaxy S7 Edge is available in variants of 32 GB and 64 GB internal memories. There is also the scope for adding an additional Micro SD card with a capacity up to 200 GB.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Performance

While the Galaxy S7 Edge is a great performance and has a lot of positives, the price point certainly underlines a big negative. With the bridge between mid-range and high-end phones being gapped by a lot of the new players in the market, Samsung would do well to come up with an improved price point with its next Galaxy S series offering.
